Carolina Markowicz
Screenwriter and director based in São Paulo - Brazil. She has written and directed 6 short films selected to more than 300 festivals such as Cannes, Locarno, Toronto, SXSW, AFI and awarded with more than 100 prizes.
The Orphan, is one of the most awarded short films of the year word wide. It premiered in The Director’s Fortnight - Cannes and was the winner of the Queer Palm, being the first Brazilian fiLm to ever win this award.
Carolina was one of the 10 emerging filmmakers invited to be part of TIFF Talent Lab, whose mentors were Wim Wenders, Jim Stark, Christine Vauchon and Malgorzata Szumowska.
In 2018, she was selected to Berlinale Talents and to Locarno Filmmakers Academy, where she was part of a piece at Indiewire that showcased "Some of the world’s most exciting new filmmakers”. In 2019, she was invited to be part of SEE Factory, in which she co-wrote and co-directed the short film “Spit” that was screened in the opening day of the Director’s Fortnight – Cannes 2019.
